The Ministry of Health has confirmed 137 cases of Mpox virus disease across 17 counties, with fresh infections now reported beyond the northern transport corridor.

The highest case numbers have been recorded in Busia (48), Mombasa (37), and Nakuru (16). Other affected counties include Nairobi, Makueni, Kajiado, Bungoma, and Kilifi.

Authorities have tracked 400 contacts, with 15 testing positive, and screened over 4.8 million travelers at points of entry. So far, 597 samples have been tested at national and partner labs.

In response, the government has ramped up surveillance and public awareness, sending out 15 million SMS alerts via Safaricom and urging Kenyans to access free information through 719# or hotline 719.

The Ministry is urging vigilance as it intensifies efforts to curb the spread.
