Mystery Suspect Vanishes, Leaves Behind Suspected Drug Haul in Machakos Market

Police in Machakos County are conducting investigations into a suspected case of drug trafficking following an incident in which a man abandoned a sack of drugs in Ekalakala town during routine patrol.

The drama occurred at Ekalakala Market whereby officers from Ekalakala Police Station, who were undertaking their normal patrols, observed a male individual who looked nervous with a large sack. Police reports indicate that the individual looked nervous as soon as he saw the officers. Within no time, the individual dropped the luggage and fled.

Although the suspect was chased, the latter remained elusive as the police apprehended an abandoned sack. After retrieving the contents in the sack, the police found items believed to be part of the drug business. These items included about seven kilograms suspected to be cannabis, 25 packets of rolling papers, and 49 broomsticks.

The unusual combination of items led to a suspicion that the items might have been meant for distribution within the area.

The police are actually investigating a suspect in this case, as well as determining whether he belongs to a larger network of criminals in Machakos County.

The National Police Service, in a statement, says that the seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of patrols in containing crime before criminal activities get out of hand.

“The National Police Service remains committed to maintaining law and order through sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations and swift action against activities that threaten public safety,” it read.

People have been encouraged to cooperate with the police in providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect as the war on drug-related crime gains momentum.
