Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has praised the Dawoodi Bohra community for its long-standing contribution to Kenya’s economic growth and social development, during a reception held in honour of the community’s spiritual leader, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin.

Mudavadi said the Dawoodi Bohra community has been part of Kenya’s social and economic fabric for more than a century, describing it as a vibrant and entrepreneurial Shia Muslim community whose impact spans multiple sectors of the economy.

He was speaking while welcoming Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who is visiting Kenya for several days, a visit the Prime Cabinet Secretary said reflects the deep and enduring ties between the community and the country.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary highlighted the community’s significant economic footprint, particularly in strengthening Kenya’s manufacturing base through investments in glass, aluminium and paper production. He noted that Dawoodi Bohra enterprises also play a key role in real estate, infrastructure development and the banking sector, contributing to job creation and investment growth.

Beyond business, Mudavadi commended the community’s strong tradition of philanthropy, saying its support for health and education initiatives has improved lives and expanded opportunities for many Kenyans.

“These contributions are visible across the country and underscore a shared commitment to progress, dignity and inclusive development,” Mudavadi said.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with faith-based and community groups, noting their role in advancing social cohesion and sustainable development in Kenya.
