The Kenyan entertainment fraternity has been thrown into mourning following the death of actress Winfred Bwire Ndubi, famously known as Dida.
Dida succumbed to cancer on Thursday, September 5, while undergoing treatment in Turkey.
News of her demise was made public by journalist Lulu Hassan, who was her boss during the actress’s role in the Citizen TV telenovela Sultana.
"We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course," said Lulu.
Before her death, Dida had called on the public for financial assistance as she continued her courageous fight against metastatic breast cancer.
In 2023, she said she needed KSh 7 million to facilitate the crucial medical treatment abroad.
Dida’s cancer journey began with swelling and discomfort under her armpits. She dismissed it as a general infection, but persistent pain led her to seek further medical advice.
After consulting a gynaecologist and undergoing a biopsy, Dida was diagnosed with Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a rare type of cancer that has the presence of abnormal cells inside a milk duct in the breast.
She immediately started treatment and endured several rounds of chemotherapy.
