Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno, the Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change welcomed a delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), led by Country Director Dr. Jang Hee IM, for a courtesy visit to discuss ongoing and future collaborative projects in Kenya.

The meeting centered on Kenya’s comprehensive efforts in climate change adaptation and mitigation, with a specific focus on initiatives designed to build resilience among vulnerable communities.

Dr. Ng’eno expressed gratitude for KOICA’s sustained support for Kenya’s climate agenda and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in areas such as landscape and wetlands restoration, as well as climate-smart agriculture.

These initiatives, he noted, are pivotal for improving livelihoods while advancing environmental sustainability.

Joining the discussions was Samson Toniok, CEO of the National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND), who provided insights into a new project currently being negotiated with KOICA.

This project targets Kajiado, Isiolo, Turkana, and Narok Counties and aims to enhance local economies through agroforestry, aquaculture, beekeeping, and other climate-smart agro-ecological activities that promote resilient livelihoods.

The proposed project aligns with Kenya’s national climate goals by equipping communities with adaptive strategies to combat climate change while enhancing food security and economic resilience.

The KOICA delegation reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Kenya’s climate agenda, offering technical support and expertise to bolster climate resilience projects.

Dr. Ng’eno expressed optimism that the partnership with KOICA could serve as a model for regional climate adaptation strategies and significantly contribute to Kenya’s vision of achieving a sustainable green economy.
