Kenya has sent its first all-female SWAT team to Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission. The team, made up of 144 officers, arrived on February 6, 2025. They were welcomed by MSS Commander General Godfrey Otunge.

This skilled team is expected to help stabilize Haiti, which faces ongoing violence and political instability. Their presence will support the mission to restore peace in the country.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed the deployment of 120 men and 24 women to join the 600 officers already in Haiti. He stated that Kenya is committed to ensuring peace in Haiti.

The team was welcomed by Haitian officials, including President Leslie Voltaire, Prime Minister Didier Fils-Aimé, and National Police Director General Normil Rameau. They thanked Kenya for its support.

The mission faces challenges, as the U.S. has reduced its financial contributions. However, President William Ruto assured that Kenya would continue to receive support from the U.S., following talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Kenya joins other countries, including Jamaica, Guatemala, the Bahamas, and Belize, in Haiti’s peacekeeping efforts. These nations are helping Haiti combat violent gangs that have destabilized the government for years.
