Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has joined Commonwealth leaders in Apia, Samoa, to officially open the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.

Hosted by Samoa’s Prime Minister, Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa, this year’s CHOGM holds special significance as the Commonwealth celebrates 75 years of collaboration among its member nations, with a focus on building a resilient, shared future.

In his statement, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of unity and resilience within the Commonwealth.

He extended his congratulations to Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, on her appointment as the next Commonwealth Secretary-General, describing her as a distinguished leader who will carry the Commonwealth’s vision forward.

“I joined Commonwealth leaders in Apia, Samoa, for the opening of the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024, hosted by the Independent State of Samoa Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa. This year’s CHOGM marks a significant milestone as we celebrate 75 years of the Modern Commonwealth, united in our commitment to building a resilient, shared future,” he said.

Together with other leaders, Mudavadi endorsed a Communiqué and endorsed vital declarations focused on ocean preservation and reparatory justice.

These initiatives, he noted, reflect the Commonwealth’s ongoing commitment to addressing critical global challenges while ensuring sustainable progress for its member states.
