Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo on Thursday announced the completion of the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST), setting the stage for the admission of its pioneer cohort in September 2025.
Speaking during a tour of the ultra-modern institution situated within the Konza Technopolis, CS Kabogo confirmed that Kenya-AIST is now ready for official handover and lauded the Government of South Korea for its instrumental role in its development.

“On behalf of President William Ruto, I extend our sincere gratitude to the South Korean Government for their immense support in setting up Kenya-AIST, which is modelled after Korea’s KAIST,” Kabogo stated.
The Cabinet Secretary affirmed that the university will play a critical role in advancing Kenya’s science and technology agenda, noting that it will offer postgraduate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
He described the institution as a game-changer in nurturing world-class scientists and engineers essential for Kenya’s industrialization.

“Kenya-AIST will not only promote cutting-edge research but also drive innovation to support our country’s modernization agenda,” he added.
The Cabinet approved the establishment of the university on March 11, 2025, and resolved to grant it a Charter in accordance with Section 24 of the Universities Act.
Kabogo emphasized the importance of professionalism and meritocracy in the management of the institution, urging stakeholders to uphold excellence from the onset.

He was accompanied by Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy Eng. John Tanui, Kenya-AIST Council Chairman Prof. Emmanuel Mutisya, South Korean Ambassador to Kenya Kang Hyung-Shik, Konza Technopolis CEO Mr. John Okwiri, and representatives from partner universities.
