Popular Radio Jambo presenter-cum-musician Joseph Ogidi, better known as Gidi Gidi, has officially withdrawn from the Gor Mahia Football Club elections.

Gidi, renowned for the hit song Unbwogable, had declared his candidacy for the position of Secretary General.

However, in a statement released today, he announced his decision to step down from the race, just days before the elections scheduled for Sunday at the Nyayo Stadium Basketball Court.

“I, Joseph Ogidi, wish to officially announce my withdrawal from the race for the position of Secretary General at Gor Mahia Football Club,” his statement read in part.

While he did not provide specific reasons for pulling out, Gidi cited “circumstances beyond his control” and a desire to respect the integrity of the electoral process.

He indicated that more details will be shared after the election period concludes.

“Out of respect for the ongoing electoral process and in full adherence to the court directive regarding the scheduled elections, I will refrain from providing detailed commentary on the reasons behind my withdrawal until after the election period has concluded,” he added.

Despite stepping aside, Gidi reaffirmed his unwavering support for the club and its fans.

“My commitment to Gor Mahia Football Club and its supporters remains steadfast. I believe in the importance of unity, transparency, and integrity in leadership. It is in that spirit that I have chosen not to allow my personal circumstances to become a distraction to this crucial process,” he stated.

With Gidi out of the race, the contest for Secretary General will now be between incumbent Sam Ocholla and challenger Nicanor Arum.
