Kenya’s national motocross team is preparing for the FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN) in Marrakech, Morocco, taking place from Friday to Sunday.

A squad of 17 talented riders is ready to represent the nation, thanks to support from the Ministry of Sports, which will cover all expenses, including airfare, accommodation, and bike transport.

Leading the team is multiple national champion and current MX1 series leader, Apollo Mbuki, who will be joined by three female riders and a competitor in the Veterans Class.

In a recent event, Mbuki and fellow rider Alex Kandie claimed the top spots in the second round of the FIM Africa Central African Challenge (CAC) Motocross Challenge Cup.

The Motorcycle Federation of Kenya (MSFK) has flagged off the team with a message of encouragement, urging them to compete with enthusiasm and determination.

MSFK President Renzo expressed confidence in their ability to excel against Africa’s best riders, highlighting that success in this championship could elevate their recognition both continentally and within Kenya.

“I know you will be facing some of the continent’s top competitors, which will be challenging. But I urge you all to remain optimistic and give it your all,” he said.

The championship will see participation from 18 African countries, featuring various classes such as MX50, MX65, MX125, MX2, MX1, WMX, and VMX. Notable Kenyan riders include Leto Tohani, Jeremy Hawi, and MX Lite competitors Ngengi Kamau and Chemain Kangogo. Veteran Fredrick Yongo will also compete in the Vets Class.

Kenya last hosted the MXoAN in 2016 at the Jamhuri track, where Apollo Mbuki led a historic 1-2-3 finish in the MX2 class. As the team heads to Marrakech, hopes are high for a repeat of those past triumphs.
