A senior High Court advocate, James Onchiri Nyaata, was tragically found dead on October 21 after being accidentally crushed by his car outside the Kajiado Law Courts.

The shocking incident has left his family, colleagues, and the legal fraternity in mourning.

Witnesses reported finding Nyaata’s body beneath his vehicle, with visible head injuries.

According to preliminary investigations, Nyaata was last seen at a bar across from the Kajiado Law Courts before the tragic accident occurred.

Police say CCTV footage captured key moments leading up to the accident. At around 9:26 p.m., Nyaata was seen being assisted by three people, who placed him next to his car at the rear. He was left in the care of his messenger, who was supposed to drive him home.

However, the CCTV footage reveals that the messenger entered the vehicle and, while reversing, tragically ran over Nyaata, crushing his head beneath the left rear tyre. The messenger then fled the scene without notifying authorities of the incident.

The police have since arrested the messenger and the four individuals who were with Nyaata at the bar.

The suspects were arraigned in court, where police sought custodial orders to keep them in remand at the Kajiado police station while investigations continue.

This development has quelled initial fears that the advocate had been murdered, with police now focusing on investigating the accident as the cause of death.

Authorities expressed confidence in the progress of the investigation, noting that they have the right suspects in custody.

Nyaata’s body has been moved to a local mortuary pending further investigation and an autopsy. His family, along with members of the legal community, are demanding justice for the advocate’s untimely death.

Police have assured the public that they are working diligently to resolve the case and determine the full circumstances behind the accident.
