Moi University Council has sent embattled Vice Chancellor Isaac Kosgey on a compulsory eight-month annual leave effective January 30.
The resolution was announced by council chairperson Noah Midamba in a presser on Saturday, February 1.
Midamba said Kosgey had accumulated a significant number of leave days since his appointment to the role, which exposed the institution to audit queries.
"It has come to the notice of the University Council that you have accumulated a substantial number of leave days, equivalent to eight months. Leave is necessary for rest and rejuvenation for an employee's health and performance. The University Council has unanimously resolved that you proceed on 8-month leave," said Midamba.
Professor Kiplagat Kotut has since been appointed as the acting vice chancellor of the Uasin Gishu-based learning institution.
Further in the leadership shake-up, the university’s chief of finance and legal officers have been sent on leave.
Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Research and Extension Isaac Kimengi was also sent on a one-year sabbatical leave. Kimengi has been replaced by Professor Khaemba Ongeti.
