Decorated Volleyball Coach Promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Prisons

Celebrated volleyball coach David Lung’aho who was a Chief Inspector of Kenya Prisons Service has been promoted to the level of Assistant Superintendent of Prisons.

Lung’aho is currently the chairperson of the Kenya Volleyball Federation Coaching Commission and serves as the Technical Director, influencing the growth and development of volleyball across Kenya.

The 57-year-old has successfully coached both the Kenya Prisons men’s and women’s volleyball teams, leading them to numerous victories.

He was in charge of the Prisons women’s team between 2008 and 2017 before moving to head the men’s side between 2018 and 2023.

He has served as an assistant coach for the Kenya women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, and the men’s team, Wafalme Stars, showcasing his versatile coaching skills.

While accepting the promotion, Lung’aho stated;

“This promotion is a great honour. It motivates me to work even harder. I am deeply grateful for this recognition and thank God for this opportunity,” said Coach Lung’aho.

The promotion was presented yesterday by Deputy Commandant ACGP Beverlyne Lungatso and Director of Studies ACGP Ann Gatimu.

In a past interview, Lung’aho said his father was a sports person who introduced him to volleyball in 1960s and early ‘70s.

His career in volleyball started in 1987 when he joined Kenya Railways as an employee.

He rose to the national team in 1990 as a setter, marking the beginning of an illustrious international playing career that spanned 12 years.

He captained the national team between 1993 and 1997.
