Ministry of Health has confirmed five new Mpox cases in the past week, raising the total number of infections to 23.

The latest cases were reported in Nakuru (2), Mombasa (2), and Kiambu (1) counties.

According to the Ministry, four individuals are currently under medical management, while 16 have fully recovered.

Additionally, 156 contacts have been identified, with 117 completing a 21-day follow-up, while 34 remain under observation.

In a statement, the Ministry highlighted that two of the new cases involve children under five years old, underscoring the vulnerability of young children due to their underdeveloped immune systems.

“We urge households to practice strict self-isolation among suspected or confirmed cases to prevent transmission to children, who are at higher risk of severe illness,” they stated.

Preventive measures include avoiding close contact with suspected or confirmed cases, not sharing personal items, limiting sexual partners, and maintaining good hygiene through regular handwashing or sanitizer use.

The Ministry continues to enhance surveillance and encourages Kenyans to seek medical attention for any suspected symptoms.

“Together, with county governments and stakeholders, we will curb the spread of Mpox,” the Ministry assured.
