Kenya Airways has become the first organisation in Africa to release a stand-alone and externally assured sustainability report, marking a milestone in corporate transparency and environmental accountability on the continent.

The report, covering the financial year ending December 31, 2024, was published on the airline’s website and independently verified to ensure accuracy and credibility.

Stand-alone sustainability reports—separate from traditional financial disclosures—are designed to enhance public trust by providing verifiable data on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.

The national carrier’s inaugural report signals a growing commitment to sustainable growth, social equity, and climate-conscious operations.

According to the report the airline reported a 6% increase in turnover, largely attributed to growth in passenger numbers.

At the same time, there was a A 15% decrease in waste generation compared to 2023, with a strong emphasis on recycling paper, plastic, and electronic waste.

On Gender equality, Women now make up 44 per cent of Kenya Airways’ workforce, up from 42 per cent the previous year.

in the review period the national carrier reported that 12 per cent of the airline’s ground service equipment is powered by renewable electricity.
