Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at the possibility of working with opposition leader Raila Odinga in a bid to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Musyi FM and other Kamba radio stations on Wednesday, Gachagua said he is unsure of Odinga’s political direction but left room for a potential alliance.
“I do not understand Raila’s intentions; it is his choice, depending on whether he wants to be with Ruto and water down his political legacy or on the side of liberating this country,” he stated.
Gachagua dismissed Ruto’s chances in 2027, claiming that the President has lost the support of young voters.
“Ruto is not getting a vote from the 9 million Kenyan Gen Zs, so whether Raila is with him or not, we will defeat him. Kenyans have already decided Ruto must go home and want a new government that serves them,” he added.

Since his impeachment in October, the former DP has been actively building political alliances, meeting leaders such as Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka, People’s Liberation Party’s Martha Karua, and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa.
Meanwhile, Odinga, who recently lost his bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship, has yet to declare his next political move following a closed-door meeting with Ruto at State House, Mombasa.
Gachagua insisted that their new alliance is focused on uniting Kenyans and mobilizing voter registration rather than picking a presidential flagbearer.
“This is a new beginning, and we are on the right footing so far. We will work with Kalonzo, and while it is early to pick a flagbearer, our motive now is mobilizing Kenyans to vote to send this administration home,” he said.
The former DP also sought to ease tensions between Mount Kenya and Nyanza, urging Odinga’s supporters to recognize that their political grievances lie with Ruto, not his community.
“We are not their enemies at all. We have a problem with President William Ruto, we have no problem with Raila Odinga and ODM,” he said in a separate interview with KTN on Monday.
