Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that his soon-to-be-launched political party will feature a Gen Z leader as his deputy.

Speaking during a media roundtable with Kamba-speaking radio stations on Wednesday, Gachagua emphasized the need for youth inclusion in leadership, stating that young people should not just be seen as the leaders of tomorrow but as active leaders today.

“My party will involve them (Gen Z) to a very large extent at the position of deputy party leader. I am the party leader, my deputy will be a Gen Z so that we involve them. We don’t just tell them they are the leaders of tomorrow; they are the leaders of today,” he said.

Gachagua noted that his experience, combined with the creativity and technological prowess of young people, would create a strong leadership mix.

He also claimed that Gen Z trust him, citing his vocal support for them during the anti-government demonstrations.

“The day it mattered most, I spoke for them, I stood for them. I am not speaking for Gen Z because I left office—I spoke when I was in office, and they believe in me. I have many supporters among the young people because they know I’m truthful and genuine,” he added.

The former DP has been actively seeking alliances with other opposition figures, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, NARC Kenya’s Martha Karua, and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa.

He has also held meetings with professionals and both current and former elected leaders as he crafts his political comeback.
