Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has lauded the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and a multi-agency team for the successful demolition of a nine-storey building that had partially collapsed last week at Kilifi Corner in Fayaz Estate along Abdel Nasser Road.

The operation, which took place on Wednesday, was carried out swiftly and safely, with no casualties reported. Governor Nassir confirmed that only minor damages occurred to nearby buildings, including shattered window panes, following the controlled demolition. In the early hours of the morning, authorities barricaded several roads, including the entry to Mombasa Island via the Nyali Bridge, to ensure public safety and allow for smooth execution of the demolition process.

Despite challenges in evacuating nearby residents, the building was successfully brought down at 12:55 PM.Governor Nassir praised the coordinated efforts of the multi-agency team led by the KDF and emphasized that investigations into the collapse had already begun.“We are determined to get to the bottom of this matter and take firm action against anyone found responsible.

This kind of negligence cannot be tolerated,” he stated.Residents were asked to stay away from the area for at least two hours after the demolition to allow emergency crews to clear the debris and assess the safety of surrounding structures.
