The Judiciary is mourning the loss of Bernard Kipyegon Rugut, Principal Magistrate at Molo Law Courts, whose untimely death has deeply affected the legal community.
Chief Justice Martha Koome expressed her sorrow, announcing Rugut’s passing with a heavy heart. “On behalf of the Judiciary and personally, I offer our deepest sympathies to his wife, Purity Koskey Rugut of Kabarnet Law Courts, their children, and his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” Koome said.
She praised Rugut for his unwavering commitment to fairness, diligence, and professionalism throughout his judicial career, noting that his loss extends beyond his family to the entire Judiciary and the communities he served.
“Rugut’s legacy of dedicated service will continue to inspire us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, and we wish his soul eternal peace,” the Chief Justice added.
Rugut joined the Judiciary on July 13, 2012, as a Resident Magistrate at Bondo Law Courts, and over the years, he served in various capacities at Ndhiwa and Kericho courts. Most recently, he was appointed as Principal Magistrate at Molo Law Courts on May 2, 2023.
His death comes shortly after the Judiciary mourned the passing of Resident Magistrate Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga of the Milimani Commercial Court. Jalenga passed away on October 20 after a long illness.
Chief Justice Koome expressed deep sadness over Zena’s death, acknowledging her commitment to justice and her tireless efforts to uphold the rule of law. She extended her condolences to Zena’s family and friends, praying for strength during this time of grief.
“May her soul rest in eternal peace,” Koome added, as the Judiciary endures another loss of a dedicated officer.
