A medical doctor who was allegedly abducted in Juja and held for a Sh3 million ransom has been rescued following a police operation in Athi River that also led to the arrest of one suspect.
According to police, the victim, Emmanuel Kerich, was seized by three armed men while in the company of friends at Juja City Mall. The suspects reportedly handcuffed him before forcing him into a Subaru Forester, registration number KBK 895W.
Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle’s side mirrors displayed a different registration number, KDQ 640F, which investigators believe was intended to conceal the vehicle’s identity during the crime.
Police said the suspects drove the victim through several locations, allegedly torturing him while demanding a Sh3 million ransom before heading towards Athi River.
Acting on intelligence and with support from members of the public, officers intercepted the vehicle along the Mavemba–Mugoya Road.
Two suspects escaped, while one was apprehended by members of the public before police rescued him from mob justice and took him to hospital under police guard.
The victim was rescued safely, and detectives are pursuing the two remaining suspects.
