Members of the Rastafari Movement of Kenya on Tuesday, January 28, held a consultative meeting with UDA Party Secretary General Hassan Omar.
During the meeting, the members lobbied for more recognition and inclusion in the affairs of national development. They also asked for an assurance of their social rights by President William Ruto’s government.
Particularly, they implored President Ruto’s administration to consider them during State appointments, registration of their spiritual movement, their children to be allowed in school unshaven per the movement’s beliefs, pray at national events and an end to discrimination and stigmatization.
After the meeting, the movement led by their prophet Ras Lojuron Jahden Wambua announced that their 4.8 million members were ready to work with the government.
On his part, SG Omar praised the movement for their consistent fight for human rights and justice all over the world and assured them of the government’s commitment to accord them their rights.
"President William Ruto's government acknowledges the role of the minority and marginalized groups. We look forward to working with you as we better the lives of Kenyans across the country," said Omar.
The leaders of the movement said they would mobilise their members and vote for President Ruto in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
