Former Radio Africa Group journalist Rose Mbugua has died after a road accident involving a motorcycle and a concrete mixer along Uhuru Highway in Nairobi. The crash occurred near the University Way roundabout on Friday evening, according to police reports.
Investigators said the motorcycle and a Foton concrete mixer were both heading from the Westlands area toward the Nairobi Central Business District when the rider allegedly struck the pavement, lost control, and collided with the left side of the truck. Mbugua, who was riding as a pillion passenger, was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered severe head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police officers documented the accident before transferring her body to Nairobi City Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out. Authorities have launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
Tributes pour in for Rose Mbugua
Mbugua, aged 24, was remembered by colleagues and members of the media fraternity as a dedicated and humble journalist. Tributes poured in on social media, with many expressing shock and sadness over the loss of the young media professional.
Her death has also renewed concern over the rising number of motorcycle-related accidents, with police reporting that 13 people were killed in separate road crashes on Friday night, including several riders, passengers, and pedestrians.
