Kenya and the Islamic Republic of Iran are implementing a series of agreements outlined in a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on ICT cooperation between the two countries.

The Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, indicated that a technical committee formed this year is committed to ensuring the MoU yields significant benefits for Kenya.

PS Kisiang’ani informed the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kenya, Dr. Ali Gholampour, that Kenya aims to gain significantly from Iran in areas such as capacity building, leveraging e-commerce, and obtaining the necessary infrastructural and technical support for ICT development.

He emphasized the potential for both nations to explore critical areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. The PS noted that Kenya can learn much from Iran in creating interactive platforms tailored to the country’s needs.

Kisiang’ani also highlighted the importance of Iranian companies partnering with Kenya to enhance trade ties and develop the national addressing system. “We are willing to learn how Iran funded its massive ICT infrastructure. Our collaboration will evolve from simple to multifaceted,” he said.

Another area of interest for Kenya is benefiting from Iran’s experience in manufacturing affordable ICT gadgets and content development for the broadcasting industry. The PS reiterated that both countries have enjoyed strong relations for a long time and can mutually benefit from each other in technology and other key areas.

The ambassador, who made a courtesy call on the PS at his Telposta Towers office in Nairobi, revealed that the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Company (IRIB) plans to set up offices in Kenya, which will further strengthen the relations between the two nations.

Ambassador Gholampour emphasized that Iran looks forward to promoting cultural exchange, public diplomacy, and political relations with Kenya.
