Nairobi residents woke up to heavy traffic on Monday morning as police expanded multiple roadblocks across key entries slowing movement and leaving many stranded
The roadblocks set up caused traffic on roads like Thika Road, Mombasa Road, Waiyaki Way, Eastern Bypass, Juja Road, and Jogoo Road.
Worst affected areas were Kangemi, Roysambu, Kasarani, GM Roundabout, Museum Hill, and Donholm
Despite a court order banning such roadblocks, police went ahead and blocked off some roads.
Passengers using public service vehicles were forced to either reroute or abandon their journeys altogether. Only private cars were allowed through after thorough checks, further worsening the delays.
The disruptions come as Gen Z youth continue to mobilize for nationwide demonstrations, marking Saba Saba Day with calls for justice, reforms, and remembrance of those killed during past protests.
Earlier Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen assured the public that security would be maintained across the country.
At some points, even Kenya Air Force officers were spotted working alongside police, including on Juja Road near Moi Airbase in Eastleigh.
The government’s move to tighten control follows attempts by youth from Mombasa to travel to Nairobi for the protests, which were blocked.
Kenya Railways also cancelled passenger train services, citing technical issues a move many Kenyans online have criticized as an effort to limit the protests.
