A multi-agency security team has intercepted a Kenya-bound bus from Tanzania carrying cannabis valued at approximately Sh2.5 million at the Namanga one-stop border post.

The operation was carried out by officers from the Anti-Narcotic Unit (ANU), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Police Dog Unit, who stopped the bus for a routine inspection before uncovering the illicit cargo.

The bus, registration number T372 DWL and operated by Kidia One Express, was flagged down at the border crossing, where sniffer dogs detected suspicious packages concealed in the vehicle’s fuel chamber.

Upon inspection, officers recovered four tightly wrapped bundles containing 84 packets of cannabis with a total weight of 84 kilograms.

The driver, identified as 37-year-old George Ngoba, and the conductor, 25-year-old Trisha Lucas, both Tanzanian nationals, were arrested at the scene.

The two suspects are currently in custody and are being processed pending arraignment in court. The bus and the recovered narcotics have been detained as exhibits.
