Kenya’s women’s amputee football team has made history by qualifying for the quarterfinals of the inaugural 2024 Women’s Amputee Football World Cup.

The landmark tournament, which is the first to feature separate competitions for women’s amputee teams, kicked off on Monday at the Romelio Martínez Stadium in Barranquilla, Colombia.

In an impressive display, the Kenyan team triumphed 1-0 over England, finishing top of Group B.

Their campaign began with a 0-0 draw against Haiti, but they quickly regained momentum, defeating Peru 2-0 in their second match.

Winnie Nafula scored the opening goal in the 11th minute, and Esther Syombua sealed the win with a second goal in the 34th minute.

Head coach Clement Otieno praised the team’s resilience and progress, expressing his satisfaction with their performance so far.
