Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to preside over a key event in Addis Ababa, where former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will unveil his vision and strategic priorities for his bid to become the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson.

Mudavadi, who arrived in Ethiopia on Thursday evening, will lead the Kenyan delegation and rally support for Odinga’s candidacy as part of Kenya’s commitment to advancing a unified and transformative Africa.

“Mudavadi will preside over a reception hosted by Kenya to rally support for Odinga’s candidature for AUC chairperson among heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the African Union,” announced the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary on X.

The event is expected to draw key diplomatic figures from across the continent, offering Odinga a platform to present his Pan-African vision in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

The former Prime Minister will outline his priorities aimed at accelerating Africa’s socio-economic transformation, reinforcing his leadership credentials for the continental role.

Odinga, who has been endorsed by President William Ruto for the AUC position, is campaigning vigorously ahead of the February 2025 election.

His team, which includes renowned political strategists and diplomats, such as Makumi Mwagiru, Boaz Mbaya, Mohamud Jama, and others, is spearheading efforts to garner support across the region.

The forum in Addis Ababa will be a critical step in mobilizing backing for Odinga as he competes against his main rival, Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mahmoud Youssouf, and other candidates, including Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar and Anil Gayan of Mauritius.

Odinga’s candidacy represents Kenya’s broader commitment to enhancing Africa’s unity and strengthening its role on the global stage.

With Mudavadi at the helm, Kenya aims to consolidate support for Odinga’s vision and ensure a strong presence in the ongoing bid for the prestigious position.
