Kenyan gospel artiste and media personality Kambua has opened up about her traumatic experience with infant loss in an emotional post on social media, as the world marked Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
In her very emotional post, Kambua revealed that it took her weeks to master the courage to share her experience publicly, stating that she had to do justice to the memory of her deceased son, Malachi, and also to bring comfort to others who have endured the same fate.
“Sometimes I don’t feel as brave as I would wish to be,” she wrote. “But I will keep finding the strength to share my path to celebrate the life of my precious boy, Malachi, and to bring hope to those who have traveled the road that I have.”
Kambua’s message shed light on the often-silent grief faced by many women who have lost pregnancies or infants. She extended empathy to mothers who have heard the heartbreaking words, “I’m sorry, there’s no heartbeat,” and to parents who have had to return home with empty arms and broken hearts.
“The mothers who go home to empty nurseries and question whether to donate their baby’s clothing, or hold onto them. All the parents who’ve borne the weight of carrying the smallest coffins. I see you,” she shared.
In an emotional letter to her late son, Kambua indicated that she has hope and faith, and is reassured by the knowledge that she will see him again one day.
“Malachi my sweet boy, I know I will see you again in glory. This is the hope I have. For now I will be ok, because I know you are safe in the arms of Jesus.”
Kambua’s openness has been met with an outpouring of love and support from fans and fellow celebrities, many of whom praised her courage and strength in coming out on such a sensitive issue.
The singer’s message raised awareness about the suffering experienced by many families who have gone through pregnancy or infant loss a subject that is usually shrouded in silence and stigma.
