Kenya’s Rising Starlets secured full three points after they thrashed Tanzania 1-0 in the first leg of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier played at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
Elizabeth Mideva’s late goal handed the starlets a slim but valuable advantage heading into the return leg.
The breakthrough finally came in the 85th minute when Mideva produced a stunning finish that sent the stadium into wild celebration after a tense and long-awaited goal.
Kenya will be hoping to build on the momentum and finish the job away from home.
The team will need similar resilience and performance to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
The return leg in Tanzania is scheduled for February 14.
