A new survey conducted by TIFA Research has established that most Kenyans prefer former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi to be named the new IEBC chairperson.

Amadi is among the four candidates shortlisted for the IEBC’s top job. Others are Charles Nyachae, Erastus Edung Ethekon and Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan.

In the findings, 41% of Kenyans approved of Amadi, with 23% of the respondents supporting the former East African Court judge Nyachae.

Ethekon was backed by 15% of the respondents, with 12% supporting Ramadhan.

In terms of age, younger respondents aged 18 to 34 are more inclined to support Amadi, while older respondents aged 35 and above show a slightly stronger preference for Nyachae.

Asked for the main reason why they preferred one of these candidates for IEBC chairperson over the other three, Nyachae got the highest marks for his experience (56%).

For her part, Amadi was the only one of the four who gained the most credit for two criteria: gender preference (for a woman), and her community-regional origins, with a rating of 21% and 7%, respectively.
