The State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services has launched a nationwide sensitization programme targeting chiefs to enhance the registration of national identity cards and other critical documents.
Speaking at Kericho Teachers training College, Immigration Principal Secretary Belio Oipsang noted that chiefs play a central role in the identification of Kenyans who qualify for IDs.
He said the government has invested in technology to improve data collection and strengthen and management systems.
Kipsang further revealed that since the start of the 2026 financial year, 1.7 million Kenyans have been registered for the critical document.
