Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said the Government has put in place deliberate interventions aimed at reducing the cost of Macadamia production while promoting value addition in the sector.
Speaking at Embu University Grounds during the inaugural National Conference on Macadamia Farming, the Deputy President noted that the Government was focused on strengthening the entire macadamia value chain to maximize economic benefits for farmers and the country.
Kindiki said the new policy direction discouraging the export of raw macadamia would enable Kenya to earn more from its produce, estimating that the sector has the potential to generate over KSh 10 billion annually and create up to 30,000 jobs.
He further assured stakeholders that the Government remained committed to enforcing relevant regulations, enhancing governance in the agricultural sector, and safeguarding the reputation of Kenyan produce in global markets.
The conference brought together farmers, processors, exporters, and government officials to deliberate on opportunities and challenges in the macadamia industry.
