Youth and women groups, along with Boda Boda riders in Kaiti Constituency, have received a total of Sh2.6 million through a government-backed empowerment initiative aimed at helping them generate income and alleviate poverty.
In Ilima Ward, youth and women groups were allocated Sh1.1 million, while Boda Boda riders received Sh1.5 million to invest in income-generating ventures that will improve their livelihoods.
During the funds disbursement event at Kyambeke Market, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Aviation, Teresia Mbaika, urged beneficiaries to use the money responsibly. She cautioned against misuse and emphasized the importance of investment for long-term benefits.
“This money is not meant for buying T-shirts. Every member must use it meaningfully so that the impact of this empowerment is felt and lives are improved,” Mbaika stated.
She highlighted the proximity of Konza Technopolis City as an emerging opportunity for local youth to secure employment and encouraged them to position themselves strategically.
“The upcoming Climate Work Programme will soon be launched in both rural and urban areas, offering further opportunities for youth to earn income. Be prepared to seize such prospects,” she added.
Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, representing President William Ruto, handed over Sh1.5 million to the Boda Boda groups. He encouraged them to consider investing in electric motorcycles or starting car wash businesses as more sustainable and profitable ventures.
“For those planning to invest in motorcycles, opt for electric bikes supported by the government. They are more affordable and economical than fuel-powered options, which often come with costly loan terms,” Musyoka advised.
The event was also attended by several leaders, including Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule; Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse; Kitui South MP Rachael Kaki; Masinga MP Joshua Mwalyo; and Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda.
