A day of environmental conservation activities by the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital had been anticipated, as the Mazingira Day will be celebrated on the 10th of October.

The programme was led by Peris Bosire, Secretary for Management Consultancy Services, who also did a tree planting exercise at the Public Service Club in Nairobi. Bosire took the public servants to task for being all talk, yet they are not implementing the green agenda of the country. She called upon them to rid themselves of the old mentality and rather practice what they preach by going out to plant trees.

“In order to take care of workplaces and communities, we need public servants who have got the guts and vision to plant and nurture trees. It is not only about the environment that we are talking about—it is about our collective future,” she stated.

The activity is part of the government’s climate change agenda that includes increasing forest cover and encouraging sustainable development. The government is planning to hold similar events throughout the country during the lead-up to Mazingira Day.
