Former U.S. Vice President and prominent climate advocate Al Gore is set to visit Kenya from June 12 to 14, 2025, to lead a major climate training aimed at strengthening grassroots action in the fight against climate change.

Gore, who is also the founder of The Climate Reality Project, will preside over the 59th Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in Nairobi. The event is part of the organization’s 2025 REALITY® Tour, a global campaign rallying communities ahead of the COP30 summit scheduled later this year in Brazil.

In a statement released ahead of the visit, Gore lauded Kenya’s unique position as both a nation deeply affected by the climate crisis and a global leader in sustainable energy innovation.

He emphasized that while Kenyans continue to endure severe consequences of climate change—including food insecurity, displacement, and energy challenges—the country is simultaneously setting an example through its bold commitment to climate solutions.

The three-day event in Nairobi will bring together climate activists, youth leaders, policymakers, and community organizers to explore inclusive approaches to climate mitigation and resilience.

Discussions will cover Kenya’s efforts in clean energy, challenges in climate finance, and opportunities for regional leadership in green growth.

Participants will also have the opportunity to engage with Gore’s signature climate science presentation, as well as receive advocacy training through a newly launched digital platform.

Regional climate leaders including Wanjira Mathai of the World Resources Institute, Nyaguthii Chege of the Green Belt Movement, and Raya Ahmed Famau of the Lamu Women’s Alliance will lead key sessions.

The training is expected to empower a new generation of African climate advocates and amplify voices from East Africa in the global climate conversation.

The urgency of Gore’s visit follows a turbulent year for Kenya, marked by historic droughts and deadly floods—events that have laid bare the nation’s vulnerability to extreme weather.

With the Climate Reality Project boasting over 3.8 million global supporters, the Nairobi training seeks to harness civic pressure to influence policy change and elevate Africa’s climate agenda on the global stage.

After Nairobi, the REALITY® Tour will continue to Brazil and Mongolia, reinforcing the push for stronger climate commitments ahead of COP30.

Gore affirmed that the time for action is now, stating, “The world cannot afford to delay climate action further. Climate reality training empowers people to drive real change.”
