Police Launch Probe After Security Breach at President Ruto’s Event in Ganze, KilifiThe National Police Service has launched investigations into a security breach that occurred during a public thanksgiving event attended by President William Ruto in Ganze, Kilifi County.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, Inspector-General of police Douglas Kanja described the incident as a serious matter of national concern, saying any breach involving the security of the Head of State is unacceptable.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on May 24, 2026, while President Ruto was addressing members of the public during the event in Ganze.
The police said security agencies responded swiftly to contain the situation and restore order, although details surrounding the exact nature of the breach were not immediately disclosed.
Following the incident, the Inspector-General announced the formation of a special investigations team tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into how the breach occurred.
Kanja also ordered immediate changes to the security personnel responsible for the President’s protection in a move aimed at strengthening security protocols and addressing any possible weaknesses.
“The security of the Head of State is a matter of national security and will be treated with the utmost seriousness,” the statement read.
The National Police Service further warned members of the public attending presidential and other high-profile national events to strictly follow all established security procedures and protocols.
Police cautioned that any attempt to breach security arrangements at public events would be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the National Police Service to protect the country’s leadership and maintain the highest standards of national security.
