The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has issued a directive requiring all football stakeholders to obtain formal approval from the federation’s national office before organizing any tournaments or football-related activities in the country.
In an official circular, FKF raised concerns over the growing number of events being organized without proper authorization—actions that violate the federation’s statutes.
“FKF reminds all stakeholders of its constitutional mandate to regulate, control, and oversee all football matches and related activities within the Republic of Kenya, as the National Sports Organization and the recognized member of both FIFA and CAF,” the circular stated.
The federation further noted with concern that some individuals and organizations are conducting player trials and operating private academies without notifying or seeking authorization from FKF.
According to the statement, such practices not only breach protocol but also undermine FKF’s authority and expose players to potential exploitation.
“To safeguard the integrity of the game and protect participants, FKF emphasizes that any football activity—including the establishment of academies and the hosting of trials—must be cleared in advance,” the statement read.
New Guidelines Effective Immediately
To address these issues, FKF has implemented the following mandatory guidelines:
- All individuals or organizations planning to hold tournaments, trials, training programs, academies, or any football-related activity must submit a formal request to the FKF National Office at least 14 days prior to the event.
- Applications must include event details such as nature, dates, venues, participating teams or personnel, and proof of safeguarding measures. This includes a safeguarding policy and a designated safeguarding officer.
- For events at the county level, organizers must first consult the respective FKF branch and submit a copy of the request to the nearest branch office for coordination.
The circular, signed by FKF Secretary General Harold Ndege, reaffirmed that only the national office is authorized to approve football-related activities.
“No FKF branch, individual, or local entity may authorize events involving FKF-affiliated clubs, players, coaches, referees, or venues without prior clearance from the National Office,” it stated.
FKF concluded by warning of disciplinary action against members or entities found organizing unauthorized football activities.
“Any football event held without official FKF approval shall be deemed unauthorized. Those involved risk disciplinary action, including suspension or deregistration, in accordance with FKF Rules and Regulations,” the statement concluded.
