A teenage girl abducted three days ago in Yatya, Baringo North Sub-County, has been rescued and is on her way to being reunited with her family, according to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen.

“I am pleased to report that the girl has been found safe,” said the CS in a statement on Sunday.
“She is receiving care and will soon be reunited with her loved ones.” he added.

Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the safety, security, and welfare of all children, especially those in vulnerable regions.

He commended the multi-agency team behind the rescue, highlighting the role of local leadership and community members.

“I congratulate our security teams at the National, Regional and Local levels for a well-coordinated operation,” he said.
“Our National Police Service will pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” he undertook.

Addressing the trauma experienced by the rescued girl and her brother — who managed to escape the abductors earlier — the CS said, “We have arranged for psychosocial support for them and, if the family allows, we have offered to take them to a boarding school outside their home Sub-County where they will feel safe and at peace to pursue their education.”

He further directed local authorities to organize a peace dialogue to prevent future incidents.

“I have also directed our officers in Baringo North and Tiaty Central Sub-Counties under the leadership of the County Commissioner to organize a community meeting to resolve the underlying issues that allegedly led to this terrifying crime.”
