Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri has publicly refuted claims linking him to a girl convicted in connection with the tragic fire at Moi Girls School Nairobi in 2017.
In a statement released on Sunday, Kiunjuri firmly denied any connection to the girl, who was recently sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter.
The fire, which claimed the lives of ten students, has been a source of ongoing grief for the affected families.
“I wish to reiterate my statement from 2017: neither my daughter nor any relative of mine attended Moi Girls School Nairobi,” Kiunjuri stated.
He condemned as “insensitive and reckless” the continued dissemination of false information on social media, suggesting a familial link between him and the suspect.
Kiunjuri expressed deep concern that these rumors were not only unfounded but also deeply hurtful to the parents who lost their children in the incident.
“The individuals spreading these falsehoods are reopening fresh wounds for the grieving families,” he said. “This is an appalling act, even if the intention is to score political points.”
He criticized those who perpetuate such rumors, suggesting that they prioritize political gain over basic human decency.
