David Moyes, 61, has returned to Everton as manager for a second time, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract at Goodison Park following the dismissal of Sean Dyche on Thursday.

Currently 16th in the Premier League, Everton sit just one point above the relegation zone with a disappointing three wins from 19 games this season.

“I had 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when the opportunity to return to this great club arose,” said Moyes.

“Now, we need the full support of Goodison Park and all Evertonians to get behind the team in this crucial season, so we can move into our fantastic new stadium as a Premier League side.”

Moyes previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 before taking on roles at Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham, twice.

The Scottish manager has been out of work since leaving West Ham at the end of last season, where he guided the club to a Europa Conference League triumph in 2023.

Moyes joined Everton in March 2002, taking over a team that was perilously close to relegation.

His first match resulted in victory, and he would go on to oversee more than 500 games across 11 years at the club.

During his tenure, Everton reached the FA Cup final in 2009 and finished in the Premier League’s top eight on nine occasions, including a fourth-place finish in 2004-05, which earned them a spot in Champions League qualifying.

Moyes also played a key role in the development of future Everton legends, such as handing Wayne Rooney his professional debut and signing influential players like Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini.
