Police in Chesikaki, Bungoma County, are investigating an incident where a father allegedly beat his 22-year-old daughter to death.

According to area chief Maurice Otala, the 41-year-old father reportedly assaulted his daughter after she returned home following a period of absence.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday, January 10, Otala said he alerted the Chesikaki Officer Commanding Station (OCS), who responded with a team of detectives.

The incident is said to have occurred on the night of Thursday, January 9. Neighbors discovered the girl’s body the next morning inside her father’s house, bearing multiple injuries suspected to have been inflicted with a blunt object.

Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased had recently sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations and scored a grade of D.

However, Otala dismissed speculation linking her death to her examination performance.“The father’s actions were not related to her KCSE results. It appears to have been a disagreement between parent and child,” Otala said.

He urged parents to adopt non-violent disciplinary methods, emphasizing that corporal punishment is not a solution. The suspect was arrested on Friday and is being held at Chesikaki Police Station.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday, January 13. The victim’s body was transported to Sante Hospital for preservation, pending a postmortem.

Police have pledged to continue their investigations as the community reels from the tragedy.
