Kenyan legendary marathoner Eliud Kipchoge once again failed to mount any serious challenge in the Sydney Marathon in Australia on the morning of Sunday, August 31.
During the newest addition of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, Kipchoge finished ninth at 2:08:31. Ethiopia’s Hailemaryam Kiros won the race after clocking 2:06:06.
Despite the ninth position, Kipchoge had no regrets about missing the podium.
Speaking after the race, the marathoner said he had nothing to prove, saying he aimed to bring people together and make Australia a running nation.
"I’m happy to go across the finish line. I have nothing to prove. My mission is to bring all the people together. Let us surpass 55,000, actually, next year to run here. It’s a beautiful course. It’s a course whereby there is no other in this world. It was not my day today. Above all, I have crossed the finish line to empower the people of Australia. To make Australia a running nation," said Kipchoge.
