KCB has unveiled a Ksh. 8 million sponsorship to support Athletics Kenya’s major events in the 2025 calendar, reaffirming the bank’s long-standing commitment to sports, particularly athletics.
The funding will support the successful hosting of two major competitions: the Kenya National Athletics Championships, scheduled for June 25–27, 2025, in Nairobi, and the World Athletics Championships Trials, set for August 1–2, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Nairobi, KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo emphasized the bank’s belief in both the world-class potential of Kenyan athletes and the systems in place to nurture that talent.
“This sponsorship reflects our belief in the incredible ability of Kenyan athletes and the structures that help them thrive,” said Njonjo.
“Our partnership with Athletics Kenya is also about how sport can unite the nation and inspire countless young Kenyans to chase their dreams.”
Of the total sponsorship, Ksh. 4 million will go towards organizing the National Championships, which will feature top-tier and upcoming athletes competing for national titles, medals, and prize money.
The remaining Ksh. 4 million will fund the World Championships trials, where elite athletes will vie for a place in Kenya’s team to the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for September 13–21.
The Tokyo event will bring together over 2,000 athletes from more than 200 countries and will mark a historic milestone as Tokyo becomes the first Asian city to host the World Championships twice—the first being in 1991.
