Edwin Bett is eager for his next race following a confidence-boosting win at the final leg of the Betika Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country Series on Saturday at Cardinal Otunga High School in Kisii.
Bett, who triumphed in the senior men’s 10km, is now focused on the upcoming 10km road race in Germany in February, where he hopes to continue his impressive form from the series.
He dominated the senior men’s 10km, finishing first with a time of 29:55:8. Asbel Kiprono secured second place with a time of 30:05:6, while Francis Langat took third with 30:10:6.
This victory marked Bett’s third podium finish in the series, following his win at the second leg in Kapsokwony (30:20:12) and a second-place finish at the fourth leg in Bomet (32:33:73).
In the senior women’s 10km, Diana Chepkorir followed up her victory at the series’ first leg in Machakos with another win in Kisii. She crossed the line in 33:05:4, ahead of Janeth Chepngetich (33:32:8) in second and Gladys Kwamboka (34:11:8) in third. Chepkorir is optimistic that her success will carry into the upcoming track season.
Emmanuel Lemiso also had a strong performance, claiming victory in the Under 20 men’s 8km with a time of 23:56:4. Emmanuel Yegon (24:00:8) finished second, while Ronald Ngetich (24:11:7) came third.
In the Under 20 women’s 6km, Joyline Chepkemoi made a triumphant return from injury, clocking 19:54:1 to secure first place. Cynthia Chepkurui (19:54:2) was just behind in second, while Diana Chepkemoi finished third in 20:07:7.
2021 World Under 20 1500m champion Vincent Keter claimed victory in the men’s 2km loop, finishing in 5:34:3. Justice Byegon (5:36:4) took second, with Solomon Kimutai finishing third in 5:37:4.
Ronis Chelangat won the women’s 2km loop with a time of 6:32:5, followed by Joyce Biwot (6:37:2) in second and Mercy Koskei (6:43:1) in third.
Attention now shifts to the regional and county championships, leading up to the National Cross-Country Championships on February 8.
