Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, a senior Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official in Kilifi County, has been killed in a violent robbery at her home in Kisauni.
The 48-year-old was attacked at around 3am on Sunday, January 5 by two armed robbers who broke into her house through the kitchen window.
Police said the assailants, one wearing a mask, used a knife to attack Abubakar and her 18-year-old son, Khasim Hassan.
They then made away with the IEBC official’s phone, a Samsung a15, a 65-inch Samsung TV, a sound system, an iPad, and a Samsung A21.
After the robbers escaped, Khasim drove her mother to Premier Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
He also sustained injuries from the attack and is being treated in the same facility. He is currently in a stable condition.
Police have commenced investigations into the attack.
