The Deputy CEO of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, is set to appear before the National Assembly’s Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs on Tuesday for vetting.
Mohamud has been nominated to succeed Twalib Mbarak as EACC’s Chief Executive Officer when Mbarak’s six-year term ends in January 2025.
The nomination was announced on November 22, 2024, by EACC Chairperson David Oginde, who described the process as highly competitive.
Oginde noted that Mohamud emerged as the top candidate from a pool of 172 applicants, with 14 shortlisted for interviews conducted between November 19 and 21, 2024.

Among the shortlisted candidates were Stephen Maisha Ngowa from Kitui, Doreen Nkatha Muthaura from Isiolo, and Jackson Kaunda Mue from Machakos, alongside Joseph Vincent Onyango from Nairobi and Paul Ndemo Maina from Kisii.
Other contenders included Victor Omari Okongo from Siaya, Peter Lokol Lomulen from Turkana, Obadiah Kipkoech Keitany from Baringo, and John Tentemo Ole Moyaki from Kajiado.
Justa Wawira Mwangi from Embu, Mohamed Abdul Mmaka from Lamu, and Waweru Karanja from Laikipia were also in the running.
With over 30 years of experience investigating corruption and economic crimes, Mohamud has built a robust career in law enforcement.
He began as a Cadet Inspector with the Kenya Police Service in 1989 before joining the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (now EACC) in 2005, where he led the Rapid Response Division and later became Director of Investigations.
In addition to being an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Mohamud holds a Master of Science in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester, a Bachelor of Laws from Mount Kenya University, and a Professional Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
If approved, Mohamud will take over leadership of EACC at a critical time, as the agency intensifies efforts to combat corruption and promote integrity in public service.
