Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans — especially the younger generation — to carry forward the vision of the country’s founding heroes by championing economic liberation.
Speaking during the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County, Kindiki said the fight for self-rule laid the foundation, but today’s generation must complete the journey by delivering prosperity for all.
“Our forefathers gave us political independence. It is now upon us to deliver economic independence. That is the debt we owe them,” Kindiki told the crowd gathered for the national holiday.
Kindiki emphasized that under President William Ruto’s leadership, the government is working to ensure every Kenyan has access to opportunities that can uplift their economic status.
He pointed to investments in agriculture and the blue economy as key drivers of transformation for millions of households across the country.
“Economic reforms must reach the ordinary Kenyan — the farmer, the fisherman, the youth in informal settlements. Only then will Madaraka truly mean freedom for all,” he said.
The Deputy President also urged citizens to set aside political rivalries and ideological differences, focusing instead on uniting for the nation’s good.
“Kenya must rise beyond the politics of division. Unity is not a slogan — it is the backbone of progress,” he said.
Kindiki concluded his remarks with a passionate appeal to young Kenyans to take ownership of the country’s future by embracing innovation, hard work, and civic responsibility.
“You are not just heirs of freedom — you are architects of the future. Step forward and shape the Kenya you want to live in,” he urged.
