DCI joins the world in marking Safer Internet Day 2026

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) joined the world in observing Safer Internet Day, which is marked annually on the second Tuesday of the month of February.

The observance of the day was marked on the 10th of February 2026 under the theme: “Smart Tech, Safe Choices, Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI.”

As part of the observance of the day, the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU) of the DCI partnered with the MX4 Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that focuses on protecting children. The two bodies sensitized school-going children on the importance of the day. School-going children are considered to be the most vulnerable to online crimes.

The sensitisation forums were conducted in various learning institutions within the city. The children were sensitised on emerging online crimes such as human trafficking, sexual exploitation, child labor, cyberbullying, phishing, among others.

The children were adviced to be cautious of online predators, opening unknown links to avoid phishing and harness the power of the internet and AI to do good.

They were encouraged to report to the police through the police hotline 999, report any suspicions to the authorities through the children’s helpline 116.

Also, they were advised and encouraged to report to the Fichua Kwa DCI through 0800 722 203 / 0709 570 000 and seek help from parents, teachers, or authorities whenever they are confronted with online threats.

The sensitisation forums were conducted in Wangu Junior Secondary School, Dandora Secondary School, and Komarock Road Senior School. The events were attended by the Deputy Officer Commanding the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit, Mr. David Khisa Wafula, the MX4 Foundation National Coordinator, Mr. Ian Kut.
