Mining Cabinet Secretary Hasan Joho joined the Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Mining, and Forestry on Thursday in Kambe-Ribe, Kilifi County, to hear grievances from residents over alleged land rights violations and environmental pollution by a local mining company.

This critical session provided a platform for residents to voice their concerns, detailing issues such as lack of compensation for acquired land, damage to homes from heavy explosives, and severe air and noise pollution affecting their daily lives.

Joho emphasized that all investors in Kenya’s mining sector must comply with the Mining Act, which mandates strict adherence to environmental and community protections.

He reiterated that mining operations must respect the rights of local communities and maintain safe environmental practices.

“This mission underscores the government’s commitment to protecting both people and the environment from irresponsible mining practices,” Joho stated.

The Principal Secretary for Mining, Elijah Mwangi, also attended, signaling the government’s united stance on addressing community concerns.
