Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi held productive discussions with Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Penny Wong, focusing on key areas of mutual interest.
The talks centered on potential collaboration in sectors such as mining, climate-resilient agriculture, education, and labor migration.
During the meeting, Mudavadi highlighted the substantial Kenyan diaspora in Australia, which consists of over 50,000 Kenyans actively contributing to various sectors, including education and investment.
He advocated for the relaxation of visa regulations for Kenyans, aiming to facilitate easier access for the skilled workforce to explore beneficial opportunities in Australia.
Wong responded positively to the discussions, revealing Australia’s commitment to investing $75 million in climate-resilient agricultural initiatives, particularly in seed adaptation.
Mudavadi welcomed this investment and urged Australian investors to consider Kenya’s priority sectors, which include mining, agriculture, manufacturing, housing, and hospitality.
The meeting was attended by Kenya’s Ambassador to Australia and the Pacific, Dr. Wilson Kogo, and Deputy Head of Mission Fred Eshikuta, further strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two nations.
As Kenya seeks to enhance its international partnerships, this dialogue represents a significant step towards fostering collaboration and attracting investment to support the country’s development goals.
